COMPETITION GUIDE

SCHEDULING:

🙂 We receive competition schedules ONE week prior to competition weekend.

➡️ Please reserve the weekend for the event!

PACKING:

  • Pack snacks, food, and water bottles! The dancers should not leave the venue to go get food. We need to keep them together at all times until their last awards ceremony is finished.
  • When packing for a competition, triple check your makeup, hair supplies, costumes, accessories, and shoes! Still bring your hair and makeup supplies even though you did it at home. We frequently need the girls to touch up their makeup and fly away hair in the middle of the day.
  • Things like scissors, safety pins, double sided tape, makeup wipes, bandaids are great safety items to
    pack!
  • LABEL EVERYTHING! Shoes/costume pieces/accessories

MORNING OF COMPETITION:

PARENTS!
Your attitudes will affect your dancer! Please stay calm and positive so they are in a good mood and
mindset. If you are projecting nervous attitudes, they will be nervous too! Keep calm, reassure them
they are going to have a great time, and encourage them throughout the day.

Day of competition:

  • 👉 Arrive 2 hours prior  to performance time (instructor will let you know the exact time)  with costume on a hanger, and snickers in you pack. Competitions run AHEAD of schedule! Some are notorious for being an hour to an hour and a half ahead of schedule.
  • 👉 Audience and judges should not see you in costume before the competition.
  • 👉 Dancers must meet near the main entrance, then we will go with them at dressing room and then they should stay together the whole time!
  • 👉We usually have them stretch and warm up together, and if time permits, we will run through their dance before hitting the stage!
  • 👉 We cannot go looking for dancers that wander away or go sit in the audience.
  • 👉 When your dancer is finished performing, this is not the end, they will be have an awards ceremony. This ceremony could be around 30-50 min long.
  • 👉 After the awards ceremony we are usually making picture together, and only after this they are free to go!
  • 👉 This is mandatory to  come to the instructor and confirm that you bringing kids home. Otherwise kids should stick together and be with instructor.
🙃 You will be added to a group and just follow instructions there . We will help you with everything.
🔥 LET’S MAKE THIS DAY AMAZING 🔥

WATCHING:

  • 🖖 Once you have your dancer dressed, and they are with the group, you are free to go sit in the
    audience if you’d like!
  • 💪 While in the audience, please represent ACROSSERS well. Do not stand up or move around while
a dancer is on stage. The person behind you could be trying to watch their dancer on stage! Be
    courteous.
  • NEVER speak negatively about any other studios or dancers. Each dancer and team has their own individual destiny, goal, speed of achieving it and the path they have chosen.
  • THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO VIDEO OR PHOTOS ALLOWED OF DANCERS ON STAGE. They will kick you
out AND could penalize the dance by disqualifying them. They have their own photographers and
videographers. This is an important thing to remind any other friends / family you may have coming!
  • 😜 SUPPORT and CHEER UP our dancers! This is really help them when they have active support behind their back.
  • 🤩 There is NO fee to come watch – they are free events and have livestream as well!

AWARDS:

  • Awards are different at every event. They will all start with “adjudicated” awards. This is what each
dance scores out of 300 points. We have dancers in different categories (levels/ devisions).

  • All competitions has a different names for their categories, for example: – Novice (KAR/ Spotlight), Performance (Showstopper) it is same beginners level.

  • Here is some Links if you want to dive in into this question

  • They will call each dance and tell them their adjudicated medal. In the case above they would call
    something like:
Entry #23 "Wow"- receives a DOUBLE PLATINUM”(showstoppers 8 &under)

That means in their category , for example – Performance, they
scored between 108.8 and 110.8.

  • Their category points cumulative between all three judges.
  • After each dance gets their adjudication, they will announce OVERALL winners. They will pick TOP scored performances in each level.
  • The quantity of TOP performances could be different and based on the quantity of dances in this category. For example if it is 10 dances, theu could pick TOP 3 , if – 15, then  TOP 5. This is always very exciting to listen for!
They sometimes do special judges awards too like “Cutest Costumes” or “Broadway Bound” if
something stood out to the judges.

HUGE REMINDER:

The medal / placement / award is NOT what we care about. Dance competitions
are extremely subjective. One judge might LOVE the dance, and another might not. We do not ever
stress the 1st place win. We want to encourage them ONLY to do the best they can do. Did they
improve? Did they try their hardest? Did they feel good when they came offstage?

THAT is the win we are going for.

THIS IS A PRACTICAL CLASS FIRST OF ALL

After Competiton

  • After the dancers are finished performing and finished with their awards ceremony, took a picture,  they are free to
    leave!
  • We do, however, really encourage our company dancers to stay and support ALL of ACROSSERS Dancers. The older dancers come to watch the younger dancers, and the younger dancers
can come watch the older ones! It always helps to hear your team cheering you on!
